Spring 2010 OLA Instructor Course
The Teacher Center Online Academy is open to those who are interested in becoming an online facilitator for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) courses for our spring semester.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants have a choice to offer courses through: (1) their own organization, district or Teacher Center on their own online course system/for their own teachers, AND (2) the NYS Teacher Center Online Academy.
The course is intended to train participants to create and offer an original 15-hour online course with a focus on the development of curriculum and structure for the course. All web-based courses developed will meet or exceed National and NYS Curriculum and Distance Learning Standards.
This 45-hour course is conducted entirely online. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a certificate for this 45-hour experience. If you are seeking in-service credit from your district, please apply before taking the course.
In keeping with the highest quality NYS Teacher Center Online Academy courses, there is now a 3-stage process for recommendation of completion is as follows:
1. Recommended and receive a certificate for 45-hrs for completion to be submitted to your district for in-service credit if you have previously applied via your district's policy and procedures.
2. The recommendation that your course has met the standards of the OLA.
3. The recommendation that you have the dispositions to teach for the OLA. If not, you will not be recommended to teach the course and a mentor may be provided the first time for co-teaching purposes, if we feel we can use the course in the NYS OLA.
