Online Academy
As a result of the NYSED and NYSTEA April 30th and May 1st Summit deliberations, NYSTEA and New York Institute of Technology have agreed to support a Teacher Center Online Academy (OLA). This 45 hour OLA course is available to educators who are interested in becoming an online facilitator for Technology Education and/or Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) courses. The training is intended to prepare participants to create and offer an original 15 hour online course with a focus on the development of curriculum and structure for the course.
All web-based courses will meet or exceed National and NYS Curriculum and Distance Learning Standards. Participants will receive a certificate for the 45 hour experience. In order to receive a school district awarded in-service credit, participants need to apply with their district for approval before taking this course.
OLA course proposals are due on or before Friday September 27th via e-mail to Darnone@NColonie.org. The course begins late fall and runs for 13 weeks (exact date TBA). Participants are expected to sign-in at least 3 times weekly and complete all assignments on time. Participants agree to offer their developed course into the NYS Teacher Center Online Academy.
The OLA course requires a $50.00 registration fee payable to the ITRC at the start of the course and will be returned to all individuals successfully completing all coursework. To ensure that course development is not duplicated, participants are asked to visit http://eeznt3.nyiteez.org/olacatalog for a complete listing of existing courses.
OLA proposals (submit to Darnone@NColonie.org.) must include the following:
- Name of Participant
- E-mail and phone number
- Mailing address
- Your Regional Teacher Center – If applicable
- Title of the Proposed Course
- Brief description of the type of course to be created
