October 31st, 2008 Resolution to NYSTEA

Recommendations for Exe. Board summarized by Clark Greene to include economies, STEM, collaboration/partnership, and preK-12 audience:

Whereas: Numerous national publications and proposed legislation items have recently emphasized the importance of STEM education to the economic viability of America’s future,

Whereas: Potential for financial support from proposed STEM legislation is a significant possibility in the near future and in the long term,

Whereas: Stem Education is heavily promoted by numerous engineering societies, business and industry groups and professional education organizations as a key element to improving American education,

Whereas: The position of the Advisory Council of the New York State Technology Education Association is that technology education is the representative discipline of the “T” & "E" in STEM,

Whereas: There is currently no comprehensive plan for STEM education in New York State,

and Whereas: Establishing effective communication between component disciplines of STEM is critical to any adequately functioning STEM initiatives

Be It Therefore Resolved: The Advisory Council of the New York State Technology Education Association formally advises the Executive Board of the New York State Technology Education Association to pursue the development and hosting of a state-wide legislative summit on STEM education. The purpose of this summit will be to identify topics pertinent to a successfully functioning STEM collaborative as well as frame important topics of discussion related to effective STEM implementation.
