NYSTEA Conference 2010
The New York State Technology Education Association (NYSTEA) will hold its 2010 Annual Conference in Poughkeepsie, New York. This will be the first time that our organization has traveled to this historic area along the scenic Hudson River that is celebrating its 400th Birthday this year. For this years conference, the Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel will be our host.
In an ever changing world, education cannot stand still. With the challenges of new initiatives to meet the ever increasing needs of our students, NYSTEA has taken a leadership role in providing guidance, useful strategies and approaches for its members. To that end, NYSTEA, in partnership with the Association of Math Teachers of New York State (AMTNYS), and the Science Teachers of New York State (STANYS) formed a very successful collaborative in January of 2009. The name of the group is the NYS STEM Education Collaborative. Among our many goal is to help shape STEM Education in New York State.
The 2010 NYSTEA Conference theme will be “Setting the Course for Technology Education” with a strong focus on the “Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) initiative”. We will also be looking at our partnership with The Beacon Institute for Rivers and Estuaries. A number of our Technology teachers participated this summer and will again next summer in a NSF grant called “SENCE IT”. The development of On - Line Academy courses to further professional development as well as a look into the NYSED Virtual Learning System is also on the menu. There will be a wide variety of presentations from our members as well as our 2009-10 Mini-Grant recipients.
Once again our Sustaining members will be there for the vender show. Over the years they have shown us great support and have become a fixture at our annual conference. I am sure they will have the latest and greatest to show us again. And don’t forget about the Ship’s Drawing.
The 2010 conference will begin on Wednesday evening, April 14th, with the 47th Representative Assembly and conclude on April 16th. In between there will be presentation from some of the brightest educators in our profession. We will be inducting new members to our professional fraternity, Epsilon Pi Tau, have updates from SED, honoring our Regional Teachers of The Year and have the opportunity to spend some valuable time conversing with our peers. See you in Poughkeepsie!!
